Squalane
Squalane is derived from squalene, a lipid naturally present in the skin's lipid film, produced by the sebaceous glands in the form of sebum. It contributes to skin hydration and the maintenance of a protective barrier against external aggressions. However, the skin's production of squalene slows down considerably from the age of 30, which can lead to drier and less protected skin.
Derived from squalene, squalane is made more stable for optimal integration into skincare products. It provides deep hydration, making the complexion brighter and more even. By acting as a powerful anti-aging agent, squalane protects the skin from premature aging linked to oxidative stress and external aggressions such as pollution and UV rays. Light and non-comedogenic, it is suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive or acne-prone.
It is important to note that squalane can come from both animal and plant sources. For an ethical and sustainable approach, it is best to choose skincare products made with plant-based squalane, derived from oils such as olive, soybean or sunflower, as well as rice bran or wheat and oat germ.
Integrating squalane into your skincare routine therefore brings a multitude of benefits. In addition to deeply hydrating the skin, it helps strengthen the skin barrier, maintain elasticity and prevent visible signs of aging.
